Surprising "must haves" for the desert gardener

Wire trash cans are very convenient for collecting harvest and keeping air flow open and options for pollinators to leave after harvest. 

Wire trash cans are helpful when used in separating compost.  The openings in the wire work as a screen to keep the larger items in compost out of the smaller soil particles that can be used as seed starting material.

Turning the wire basket upside down over seedlings, newly planted seeds or new transplants can keep them safe from garden critters while allowing air flow, pollinators and water in.

1. Keep irrigation systems clearly labeled by zip tying tubes in the order of the watering zones they service.
